Who Takes Lessons With Us
Young beginners — Children in Cumming can start as early as age 4. Our youngest students learn note-reading, rhythm, and proper instrument technique through short, patient sessions. Forsyth County's elementary and middle schools are building string orchestra opportunities through the United Forsyth Orchestra initiative, and students who begin private lessons early arrive with a genuine head start — proper bow hold, confident posture, and the ability to read music before their first school rehearsal.
School-age & competitive students — Forsyth County sends dozens of students to GMEA All-State Band and Orchestra each year across North Forsyth, South Forsyth, West Forsyth, Lambert, Denmark, East Forsyth, and Forsyth Central high schools. North Forsyth's band program has earned consistent Superior ratings at LGPE and performed at festivals around the world, including London, Chicago, and Washington, D.C. Lambert High School's band and orchestra send regular All-State selections. South Forsyth's Wind Ensemble reached BOA finals for the first time in school history. The Forsyth County Arts Alliance supports music programs county-wide with grants and community events. Private lessons are the engine behind these achievements.
Adults & returning players — Cumming's growth has brought a wave of professionals and families who value more than just commute convenience. Many of our adult students work from home or nearby and carve out time for something creative and personal. Piano, guitar, and music theory are popular choices for adults who want to understand the music they listen to — or finally learn to play it. Same evaluation-first process, same personalized curriculum, same flexibility.

Your Instructor
Soul Music Lessons is led by a multi-instrumentalist who directly teaches violin, viola, piano, classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, music theory, and cello. This is not a franchise with rotating staff — your evaluation is conducted by the person who will guide your musical development long-term. Specialist instructors handle voice, drums, saxophone, and flute to the same standard.
Part of Cumming's Music Community
Forsyth County's arts community is growing fast. The Forsyth Philharmonic performs orchestral concerts. The Cumming Arts Center and Sawnee Association of the Arts host exhibitions and seasonal festivals. The FoCAL Performing Arts Center at South Forsyth High stages musicals and community performances. Lambert High's United Forsyth Orchestra Day brings string players from across the county together. And Lake Lanier's parks and the Cumming Fairgrounds host outdoor events year-round. Students who study with us are preparing to be part of this expanding arts landscape.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age can children start music lessons?
We accept students as young as 4. The evaluation lesson helps us determine readiness — every child develops at their own pace.
Do I need any experience to start?
None at all. Many of our students begin with no musical background. Your evaluation gives us what we need to build the right plan.
How much do lessons cost?
Pricing depends on lesson length and frequency — we offer flexible options for different budgets. Call 470-789-2422 or use our contact form for details.
Are private lessons necessary for GMEA and school auditions?
Students who combine school rehearsals with weekly private lessons consistently outperform those who rely on classroom instruction alone. Private coaching on scales, excerpts, and sight-reading makes a measurable difference.
Do you offer group lessons?
Yes — after private evaluation confirms readiness. Group playing builds listening, confidence, and the kind of musical friendships that make practice feel less like a chore.
Do you offer online lessons?
