👂 Ear Training
Train your musical ear — identify intervals, chords, and notes by sound.
What is Ear Training?
Ear training — also called aural skills — is the practice of recognizing musical elements by sound alone. This includes identifying intervals (the distance between two notes), chord qualities (major, minor, dominant), melodic patterns, and rhythms. Ear training bridges the gap between reading music on paper and truly hearing and understanding what you're playing.
Why Ear Training Matters
Musicians with a trained ear can figure out songs by listening, catch their own mistakes in real time, tune their instrument more accurately, improvise more freely, and communicate with other musicians more effectively. Many students underestimate ear training until they hear the difference it makes in their playing.
How to Practice Ear Training
Consistency beats intensity. Even 5–10 minutes of ear training daily — using tools like this one — will produce noticeable results within a few weeks. Start with simple intervals (unison, octave, perfect 5th) and basic chord qualities (major vs. minor) before moving to more complex recognition.
