Private music lesson for student in Duluth GA
Private music lessons begin with a no-pressure evaluation — we listen, we plan, you decide.

What to Expect

Every student starts with a no-pressure evaluation lesson — a one-on-one session where we learn about you before we teach you anything. What instrument draws you in? What do you hope to play? Are you starting fresh or returning after years away? From there we build a personalized curriculum around your goals, your schedule, and your budget. No contract, no obligation.

Duluth is a culturally diverse city with a revitalized downtown and a deep appreciation for the arts. Our lessons reflect that — thoughtful instruction that meets every student where they are, regardless of background or experience level.

  • Complete beginners welcome — children as young as 4, teens, and adults starting from zero
  • Advanced & competitive students — GMEA All-State, LGPE, seating auditions, Gwinnett County Youth Orchestras
  • 17 instruments — violin, viola, piano, classical/acoustic/electric/jazz guitar, bass, cello, voice, drums, saxophone, flute, music theory, ear training, songwriting, and improvisation
  • Private lessons first — group ensembles available after your instructor confirms readiness
  • Flexible scheduling & lesson lengths — after-school, evenings, weekends

Who Takes Lessons With Us

Young beginners — A child's first encounter with an instrument should feel like discovery, not homework. Our youngest students — starting as early as age 4 — explore note recognition, rhythm, and proper technique through short, focused sessions. We build the foundation so that when they enter Gwinnett County's middle school music programs, they walk in ready.

School-age & competitive students — Duluth sits in the heart of one of Georgia's strongest music education corridors. Duluth High School's orchestra program — led by directors whose ensembles have performed at the Midwest Clinic, the ASTA National Conference, the Kennedy Center, and the GMEA In-Service Conference — sets an exceptionally high bar. Peachtree Ridge High School's orchestra has grown from 120 students at its founding to over 350, making it one of the largest school programs in the state. The Gwinnett County Youth Orchestras — Kendall Youth Orchestra and Gwinnett County Youth Symphony — rehearse Monday nights at Peachtree Ridge and draw audition-level players from across the district. Private lessons prepare students for all of it.

Violin lessons for students near Duluth Georgia
Strings, keys, guitar, voice — every instrument has its own foundation, and we start there.

Adults & returning players — Downtown Duluth has become a destination for live music, with venues like Red Clay Music Foundry and Eddie Owen Presents drawing songwriters and audiences throughout the week. That creative energy inspires many Duluth adults to pick up an instrument — or pick one back up. Whether you want to learn guitar chords, return to the piano you played as a kid, or finally understand music theory, we build your lessons around what matters to you.

Your Instructor

Soul Music Lessons is led by a multi-instrumentalist who directly teaches violin, viola, piano, classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, music theory, and cello. This is not a franchise with rotating teachers — your evaluation is conducted by the person who will guide your development long-term. Voice, drums, saxophone, and flute are handled by specialist instructors held to the same standard.

Part of Duluth's Growing Music Scene

Duluth's downtown revival has turned the city into a genuine music community. Eddie Owen Presents provides a listening room for songwriters and acoustic performers. Red Clay Music Foundry hosts touring acts alongside local talent. The Southeastern Railway Museum and Bunten Road Park serve as outdoor concert venues in warmer months. And the Gwinnett County school system — one of the largest in Georgia — provides students with orchestra, band, and chorus programs that rival any in the state.

Our students gain the skills and confidence to participate in this community, whether performing on a school stage, auditioning for a county youth orchestra, or playing at an open mic downtown.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age can children start music lessons?

We accept students as young as 4. The evaluation lesson helps us determine readiness — every child develops differently.

Do I need any experience to start?

None. Many of our students begin with no musical background at all. Your evaluation gives us what we need to build the right plan.

How much do lessons cost?

Pricing depends on lesson length and frequency — we offer flexible options for different budgets. Call 470-789-2422 or use our contact form for details.

Are private lessons necessary for GMEA and school auditions?

Students who combine school rehearsals with weekly private lessons consistently place higher. Private coaching on scales, excerpts, and sight-reading is especially important in Gwinnett County's competitive programs.

Do you offer group lessons?

Yes — after private evaluation. Group playing builds listening, rhythmic precision, and the confidence to perform. Students who play with peers also tend to practice more consistently.

Do you offer online lessons?
