What to Expect
Every student starts with a no-pressure evaluation lesson — a real conversation about where you are and where you want to go musically. We listen to you play (or talk about what draws you to an instrument if you have never picked one up), then match you with the right instructor and build a plan around your goals, your schedule, and your budget. No contract. No obligation. Just clarity.
Johns Creek families often tell us they were looking for something more personal than a franchise music school and more structured than a casual hobby teacher. That is exactly where we sit — serious about music, flexible about everything else.
- Complete beginners welcome — children as young as 4, teens, and adults starting from scratch
- Advanced & competitive students — GMEA All-State, LGPE, seating auditions, youth orchestra prep
- 17 instruments — violin, viola, piano, classical/acoustic/electric/jazz guitar, bass, cello, voice, drums, saxophone, flute, music theory, ear training, songwriting, and improvisation
- Private lessons first — group ensembles available after your instructor confirms readiness
- Flexible scheduling & lesson lengths — after-school, evenings, weekends, tailored to the student

Who Takes Lessons With Us
Young beginners — Johns Creek parents care deeply about education, and that extends to music. Our youngest students start as early as age 4, learning note recognition, rhythm, and proper instrument technique through short, focused sessions. We are not trying to produce prodigies — we are building a foundation of skill and love for music that will serve them for decades, whether they end up in a school orchestra or playing for their own enjoyment at home.
School-age & competitive students — The Johns Creek High School Orchestra carries the tagline "Tradition of Excellence" — and the record supports it. JCHS students have earned seats in the Georgia All-State Orchestra, the Governor's Honors Program, the Fulton County Honor Orchestra, the Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra, and the Metropolitan Youth Symphony Orchestra. The program earned the GMEA Exemplary Performance Award. Students from Northview and Chattahoochee round out one of the strongest orchestra corridors in the state. Private lessons give these students the edge in seating auditions, LGPE sight-reading, and the solo work that All-State rounds demand.
Adults & returning players — Many Johns Creek residents work in the Technology Park corridor or commute to Perimeter and want something in their week that has nothing to do with a deadline. Some played clarinet in high school and wonder if they still can. Others have always wanted to sit down at a piano and learn. There is a specific kind of satisfaction that comes from playing a piece you chose, at your own pace, with no grade attached. We provide that space.

Your Instructor
Soul Music Lessons is led by a multi-instrumentalist who directly teaches violin, viola, piano, classical guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, music theory, and cello. This is not a franchise with a rotating roster — when you book an evaluation, you are meeting the person who will likely guide your musical development long-term. Specialist instructors handle voice, drums, saxophone, and flute to the same standard.
Part of the Johns Creek Music Community
Music runs deep in Johns Creek. The Johns Creek Symphony Orchestra — founded in 2007 and comprised of professional musicians from across metro Atlanta — performs a full concert season, giving students a local model of professional musicianship. JCHS students founded "Notes of Joy," performing at assisted living homes on weekends. The Johns Creek Arts Festival and the Annual Korean Fall Festival feature student performances alongside community artists. And the JCHS Chamber Orchestra's 2026 Spring Trip to Italy reflects just how far these programs reach.
Our students gain the technique and confidence to participate in these opportunities — not as spectators, but as performers ready to step onto any stage in the community.
Frequently Asked Questions
What age can children start music lessons?
We accept students as young as 4. The evaluation lesson helps us determine readiness — and what that looks like is different for every child.
Do I need any experience to start?
None at all. Some of our most rewarding work is with adults who have never touched an instrument. Your evaluation gives us what we need to build the right plan.
How much do lessons cost?
Pricing depends on lesson length and frequency — we offer flexible options for different budgets and schedules. Call 470-789-2422 or use our contact form and we will walk you through it.
Are private lessons necessary for GMEA and school auditions?
Students who combine school rehearsals with weekly private lessons consistently outperform those who rely on classroom instruction alone. Private coaching on scales, excerpts, and sight-reading makes a measurable difference at every audition level.
Do you offer group lessons?
Yes — after private evaluation. Group ensembles work best when every student has solid individual technique. That is also where some of the most fun happens.
Do you offer online lessons?
